Bio
Play That is a hybrid-acoustic duo/trio with the maturity to soothe the critical listener but versatile enough to bring the party. Pridefully, Play That either plays or makes every note and sound live on stage without stems, tracks, or computers. Corporately, the trio possesses a century worth of experience and has performed with artists such as Aaron Hall, Missy Elliot, Melba Moore, Donnie McClurkin, Kenny Lattimore, Bobby Brown, Jacob Webb, Cheryl Pepsii Riley, and Anthony Hamilton. From jazz standards such as My Funny Valentine, Watermelon Man, and Summertime to Classics such as Georgy Porgy, My Girl, Through The Fire, Play That has you covered in any situation.
Chris Baxter is a percussionist in pursuit of the “pocket”. His attention to time and detail never fails in producing the heartbeat of the song. Deemed “the most pocket player” by his peers, Chris brings amazing ears that allow him to shape the tunes with a musical IQ not held by many. Whether it’s swishing brushes or driving Go-Go, Chris owns the pulse of Play That.
Jonathan French is a multi-instrumentalist and life long musician. From southern Florida to the upper end of New York and all stops in between, his love for jazz, gospel, blues, R&B, and alternative music has only flourished. With 3 Showtime at the Apollo wins and a healthy zest for musical execution, “French” works a keyboard with mastery and purpose and keeps Play That in good hands.
Virginia Rush is a vocal anomaly. Whether she is singing for 2 or 2,000 she pours her soul into her melodies with passion and precision. Unrivaled in stage presence, unmatched in her vocal control, and untouchable in her delivery Virginia wows every crowd with earth shattering performances consistently. Once you hear her, your ears will never be the same.
