The 246 Army Band is the South Carolina National Guard’s official touring musical organization. It is comprised of three separate performing components: the Symphonic Winds, the Palmetto Jazz Orchestra and Moment’s Notice, a top 40 rock/country band. Each component travels across the state and plays for thousands of audience members as directed by the Adjutant General of South Carolina, General Robert E. Livingston. Consisting of 40 members, musicians are asked to play in multiple ensembles to create the different touring groups. The groups offer varied repertoire but consist of standard ensemble music, pop, patriotic and show tunes.
The band was involved in multiple campaigns during WWII and has traveled overseas to areas such as Guam, the Dominican Republic, Hawaii and Key West, Florida. In recent years, the band has played for the South Carolina Governors Inauguration, the “Bojangles 500” at Darlington Raceway and the “Red, White and Blue” festival in Greenville, SC.
